A true Gastropub requires the delicate balancing of the highest quality of inventive yet warming country-style food with just the right combination of style and comfort, all of this set off by the inherent charm of a wonderful premises.
|
On the Tyne River in Haddington, the Laffin Duck Waterside Restaurant has undergone a transformation into a hearty and splendid Gastropub and fine dining experience.
Previously the ‘Waterside Bistro’, the building was originally the old weir house and looks across the river at St. Mary’s Kirk, the longest parish church in Scotland with a history dating back to 1400s.
|
Completing the rare architectural trio is the 12th century Nungate Bridge, thought to be the oldest of its kind, certainly an idyllic sight for alfresco diners and an ever popular channel for the resident ducks.
Haddington has a well established reputation for the preservation of its heritage. The extensive refurbishment of the Laffin Duck has been done with an idea to maintaining the building exterior’s original charm and beauty.
The interior has been completely refurbished to capture the essence of the local aesthetic and evoke a sense of appropriate ease and warmth without any sacrifice in style or luxury.

As any discerning diner knows, food is the heart of every establishment. There is something about a Gastropub menu that brings the best out of a master chef who cooks with love.
They get the chance to create those delightful dishes which warm as they excite, an opportunity to use the freshest produce and focus on the sincere flavours that inspired them to pan and flame. |
Then to find the perfect wines and ales to compliment their creations.
This is the essence of the Laffin Duck. Together with its rare location and architectural individuality, it offers East Lothian an eating experience like never before.
